Surf The Future: Empowering Youth Through Waves of Opportunity

The “Surf the Future” program, organized by the Dream Catchers Foundation, has made a significant impact on local youth in Nosara, providing them with the skills and confidence needed for financial independence and the ability to break the cycle of poverty. By equipping 16 young participants with essential tools to improve their quality of life, the program fosters personal growth and opens new opportunities for their futures.

The initiative was launched in February 2024, thanks to a collaboration between Cheelos Surf and Chata Surf, two local surf schools. They approached us with an innovative proposal to create a systematic intervention based on the foundation’s previous work with schools and the positive outcomes achieved.

The program involves a comprehensive process of recruitment, selection, training, and graduation. The first group of adolescents underwent 10 weeks of intensive training, including swimming, rescue techniques, and surf instruction. Their graduation took place at the end of June, marking a successful milestone. The second group is currently in training, with each group completing a 3-month program designed to equip participants with practical skills and enhance their personal development.
